NetApp and Broadcom maximize the value of customers’ private and hybrid cloud environments

NetApp® (NASDAQ: NTAP), the original intelligent data infrastructure company, today announced new capabilities that support VMware Cloud Foundation deployments. Mutual customers will be able to leverage NetApp solutions to right-size their IT environments to run VMware workloads at scale efficiently.

For more than a decade, NetApp and VMware, recently acquired by Broadcom Inc., have collaborated to ensure the success of their joint customers and help them unlock the full value of their VMware investments. During that time, NetApp has been a key engineering design partner with VMware and is continuing to drive innovation in highly available, scalable and performant storage as a design partner for its Next-Generation vSphere Virtual Volumes (vVols). Now, NetApp is announcing new capabilities that will enable joint customers to run their VMware deployments more efficiently.

“NetApp and Broadcom are working together to take the uncertainty out of hybrid cloud environments,” said Jonsi Stefansson, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at NetApp. “More than 20,000 customers rely on NetApp to support their VMware workloads. NetApp’s continued close collaboration with Broadcom following the acquisition of VMware ensures our solutions seamlessly interoperate so our mutual customers can leverage a single intelligent data infrastructure to operate their VMware workloads more efficiently.”

NetApp is helping optimize costs, simplify operations, and increase flexibility for customers running VMware environments by offering:

  • Expanded Support for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF): NetApp and Broadcom customers will now be able to simplify their VCF hybrid cloud environments by using NetApp ONTAP® software for all storage requirements, including standard and consolidated architectures. The latest release of ONTAP Tools for VMware (OTV) will support SnapMirror® active sync to provide symmetric active-active data replication capabilities for NetApp storage systems running VMware workloads. SnapMirror active sync allows customers to operate more efficiently by offloading data protection from their virtualized compute and improving data availability.
  • New Capabilities for Azure VMware Solution (AVS): To support customers that are extending or migrating their vSphere workloads to the cloud, customers can now leverage Spot Eco by NetApp with AVS reserved instances to get the most value out of their deployments. Using Spot Eco to manage AVS reserved instances while also using Azure NetApp Files to offload data storage can reduce compute costs significantly.
  • Enhanced VM Optimization Features for NetApp Cloud Insights: NetApp is introducing Cloud Insights VM Optimization, expanding its comprehensive solution for optimizing virtual environments, including VMware. Cloud Insights VM Optimization will give customers tools to reduce costs by increasing VM density, run storage at the best price-to-performance ratio for their environment, and monitor their entire environment to ensure availability, performance, and adherence to configuration best practices across the entire stack. To help customers optimize the compute, memory and storage resources of their VMware environments, NetApp is also offering customers a free 30-day trial of Cloud Insights to most cost-effectively migrate to the new VMware software subscriptions.

These offerings follow last month’s release of enhancements to NetApp BlueXP™ disaster recovery service, which provides guided workflows to design and execute automated disaster recovery plans for VMware workloads across hybrid cloud environments with newly added support for VMFS datastores.

“As organizations modernize infrastructure with VMware Cloud Foundation, they want to know that the services upon which they rely from industry-leaders such as NetApp will continue to work seamlessly and deliver the value they have come to expect,” said Paul Turner, Vice President of Products, VCF Division at Broadcom. “Having NetApp as a close collaborator helps our mutual customers deploy innovative data and storage services on top of their private cloud platform, and ensure they are getting the most value out of their VMware environments.”

“We have made Microsoft Azure the cloud of choice for VMware environments and offer fast and cost-effective solutions enabling many customers to move their VMware workloads to the cloud,” said Brett Tanzer, Vice President of Product Management at Microsoft. “As VMware customers navigate changes to operating virtualized environments, we have given our customers a way to lock in secure and predictable pricing over multiple years. NetApp’s data management and cloud observability capabilities help our customers ensure those deployments are delivering the return on investment they need.”

“In an ever more complicated world of cloud, data, and infrastructure operations, IT teams are increasingly looking for holistic platforms over point solutions,” said Scott Sinclair, Practice Director, Enterprise Strategy Group. “These joint updates from NetApp and Broadcom enable customers to use NetApp’s intelligent data infrastructure to consolidate multiple data operations onto a single platform with industry-leading data management and CloudOps capabilities. That will help customers drive greater operational and infrastructure efficiencies that reduce the total cost of ownership for their VMware investments.”

UK launch unlocks US wholesale opportunities for UK fibre providers

FiberLocator, the US’s most prominent fibre data platform, has announced the addition of data on UK fibre providers to its extensive database, which already holds the fibre footprint and route maps of 1000+ carriers, more than 5 million connected buildings, and 6,000 data centres.

FiberLocator provides carriers, mobile operators, towercos and data centre operators with the most comprehensive, accurate, and timely fibre data available. For decades it has been the United States’ leading resource guide for developing a custom fibre network, planning data centre sites, locating on-net buildings and more. The company is constantly researching and integrating new data from providers and third parties to help guide network planners with the fibre data they need.

“FiberLocator users are generating an increasing request volume for UK-based fibre connectivity, and launching in the UK will open up many exciting new opportunities for us,” said Mike Iapalucci, Vice President of FiberLocator. “On the one hand, we see increased US demand for UK fibre. On the other hand, there is a rich and diverse fibre ecosystem in the UK. Our goal is to be the bridge between UK supply and US demand, and we’re already in the process of signing up our first suppliers.”

Fibre providers contribute footprint data onto the FiberLocator platform free of charge, advertising their fibre availability to a wide range of US carriers. This creates an additional wholesale selling channel, without the need for time-consuming framework negotiations.

“With the increased expansion of UK data centres, proximity to fibre is more important than ever for data centre users and operators,” said David Liggitt, President of CCMI. “This represents a fantastic opportunity for UK providers, and we’re thrilled to share our services with the market.”

The company aims to sign up a critical mass of UK fibre suppliers before the end of the year. and will be attending Connected Britain and Capacity Europe in London this fall.

Rapid customer adoption of vendor-agnostic data management drives oversubscribed Series E round led by GV (Google Ventures), including General Partner and former GitLab CRO Michael McBride who joins Cribl’s Board of Directors

Cribl, the Data Engine for IT and Security, today announced it has closed a $319 million oversubscribed Series E round, comprised of a combined primary and secondary transaction, bringing the company’s total capital secured to over $600 million and increasing its valuation to $3.5 billion, up 40% since the company’s Series D round in 2022.

The round was led by new investor GV (Google Ventures), marking one of the firm’s largest-ever investments. The investment was led by GV General Partner and former GitLab CRO Michael McBride, who joined Cribl’s Board of Directors. GIC, CapitalG, IVP, and CRV also participated in the round. This funding comes on the heels of Cribl surpassing $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in less than four years, becoming the fourth-fastest infrastructure company to reach centaur status in October 2023.

As enterprise data grows at a 28% CAGR, far outpacing IT budget growth, legacy vendors and point solutions make it challenging for customers to keep up with the volume, variety, and value of data. Cribl’s vendor-agnostic solutions empower customers to analyze, collect, process, and route all IT and security data to unlock its value. Since its inception in 2018, Cribl has seen unparalleled growth as enterprises around the world rapidly adopt the Data Engine for IT and Security to transform their data strategies. Cribl’s telemetry data management solutions drive significant value for enterprises, evidenced by:

  • ARR Growth: The company’s ARR has grown at a 163% CAGR for the last four years;
  • Customer Growth: The customer base has grown by triple digits YoY for five straight years, including a quarter of the Fortune 500 companies that are now Cribl customers;
  • NDR: Customers continue to grow and expand with Cribl as the company boasts a net dollar retention (NDR) of over 130% over the past 12 months;
  • Multi-product Adoption: Customers purchasing multiple products across the portfolio increased by over 300% over the past 12 months.

“As practitioners who worked in this space for years, my co-founders and I know firsthand the challenges facing IT and Security as data grows exponentially. What worked over the last ten years simply cannot keep up with the needs of businesses today, let alone over the next ten years,” said Clint Sharp, co-founder and CEO of Cribl. “We started Cribl to solve these real problems for real users. Today’s funding proves the value in that approach. It’s an incredible milestone, but only a step in our journey to create a generational company that will continue to evolve to meet our customers’ needs.”

“At Sophos, we’ve found Cribl to be invaluable when it comes to addressing some of our most complex data processing challenges. Cribl not only understands the unique needs of cybersecurity professionals but also empowers them with great flexibility and control over their data. Cribl also enables us to tailor data formats for different destinations, giving us much greater control over storage options and retention periods,” said Stephen O’Leary, Principal Information Security Engineer at Sophos. “This flexibility complements our own products and other tooling, allowing us to efficiently manage an ever-increasing volume of data from disparate sources. More than just a vendor, Cribl has become a key collaborator in our mission to protect Sophos.”

GV’s support of Cribl is significant, marking one of the largest investments in the firm’s 15-year history. The funding will facilitate Cribl’s continued growth by accelerating product development, extending global presence, and strengthening infrastructure to support its rapid expansion.

“Every company must modernize its data stack as legacy systems already can’t handle today’s rapid data growth, and the arrival of AI further accelerates the need for a modern data platform,” said GV General Partner Michael McBride. “Cribl’s rapid growth has come from the consistent and powerful results experienced by its customers. It’s an honor to partner with Cribl’s deeply technical and seasoned team as they define the data platform category, similar to the way Salesforce did for sales and marketing and GitLab did for DevSecOps.”

With more than 700 employees worldwide, Cribl is actively broadening its business footprint, with a presence in the US, Europe, and Australia. The company’s market impact has been recognized by several prestigious industry accolades, including the Forbes Cloud 100 for two consecutive years, the Redpoint InfraRed 100Notable Capital’s Rising in Cyber, and the Wing Enterprise Tech 30.

Successful integration of key Mavenir network functions into Whitestack’s Open Telco Cloud platform based on Intel technology

Mavenir, the cloud-native network infrastructure provider building the future of networks, and Whitestack, an open source-based developer of Telco Cloud solutions, today announce successful completion of a technology alignment that enables Mavenir’s Cloud-Native IMS solution to be seamlessly integrated into Whitestack’s Telco Cloud platform – demonstrating Mavenir’s pivotal expertise in facilitating cloud-native deployments. The collaboration was initiated as part of a deployment with a leading Tier 1 operator in Latin America and harnesses the power and performance capabilities of the Intel Xeon processor and Intel Ethernet technology.

Empowering mobile operators to deploy telco workloads on its cloud solutions is a fundamental aspect of Mavenir’s cloud-native strategy. Today’s announcement marks the achievement of full integration with Whitestack’s Telco Cloud solution – offering telco operators a wider array of flexible options for deploying Mavenir’s solutions – and underscores the continued expansion of the telecom ecosystem aimed at liberating operators from legacy or monolithic solutions

The two companies are capitalizing on industry momentum, following significant announcements from operators adopting cloud infrastructure for critical network functions. This trend is generating substantial interest from traditional operators. To meet this clear demand, Mavenir and Whitestack are offering a compelling performance-to-cost ratio, making the transition to cloud solutions an easy decision.

“We are very pleased to have completed the integration process in a reasonable timeframe, thanks in part to our experience with other Telco Clouds and Whitestack’s flexibility in adjusting their data plane configuration to maximize our performance,” said Brandon Larson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Mavenir’s Cloud, AI & IMS Business Strategy. He added: “As the industry moves towards cloud infrastructure, cloud solutions must be adapted to be suitable for telco workloads,” says Brandon Larson. “In order to accomplish this, it takes companies like Mavenir that have developed a specialized skillset in both cloud and telco.”

Mavenir’s Cloud-Native IMS solution is based on a microservices architecture comprising Containerized Network Functions (CNFs) that adopt cloud-native principles, offering voice services that leverage the intrinsic benefits of Kubernetes to ensure high availability. This solution operates on Whitestack’s Telco Cloud platform under an automated deployment model.

“One of the many key aspects of a Telco Cloud, compared to a regular private cloud, is the ability to utilize advanced techniques for accelerating network function performance,” said José Miguel Guzmán, Telco/NFV Business Development Manager, Whitestack. “Each application has its own processing, memory, disk, and traffic profile. In WhiteCloud, we have granular control over these aspects, allowing us to provide each VNF or CNF with the optimal hardware settings to maximize their throughput, mixing and matching legacy and new-generation servers.”

“Server configurations based on Intel Xeon processors include new features designed to accelerate user traffic. When combined with the Intel Infrastructure Power Manager software and Intel Ethernet E810 Controller, these configurations allow service providers to drive optimization of their infrastructure for performance, energy efficiency and space in the telco data center,” said Alex Quach, VP Network and Edge Group, Intel.

Whitestack has emerged as a key player in the open infrastructure space in Latin America, supplying dozens of Tier 1 data centers in the region with a Telco Cloud solution based on open-source technology. Its offering includes whitebox networking, high-capacity optics systems, and COTS servers powered by Intel Xeon processors.

Mavenir, Whitestack and Intel will be participating at the Open Telco Cloud Summit 2024 in Mexico City on September 3rd 2024 – register to attend in person or virtually.
