Company Founder’s New Role Announced as BOXX Experiences Continued Growth in Professional Workstation Technology, AI Systems, and Cloud Computing

BOXX Technologies, the leading innovator of high performance workstations, rendering systems, and servers, today announced that Tim Lawrence has been named the company’s Chief Technical Officer. Lawrence, who founded the company in 1996, was promoted from his previous position as Vice President of Engineering and Operations in which he had served for many years.

“This new title and responsibility recognizes Tim Lawrence’s role as the chief technology leader at BOXX for over 28 years,” said BOXX CEO Kirk Schell. “His drive to produce the world’s most powerful workstations purpose-built for creative professionals, his insistence that they be designed, built, and supported in the USA, and his dedication to the innovative integration of only enterprise-class components, have come to define BOXX. In fact, its Tim’s knowledge, expertise, and ideals which underscore our commitment to innovation as BOXX continues to push the boundaries of computer hardware technology.”

Lawrence originally founded BOXX in Phoenix, Arizona as Cooperative PCs in 1996, but renamed the company BOXX Technologies and relocated to Austin, Texas in 1998. However, as more professions came to rely on 3D and CAD applications, Lawrence helped guide the company in serving the growing need for high performance computing to accelerate demanding 3D software throughout multiple industries.

Today, BOXX is renowned for decades of innovation designing and manufacturing record-setting APEXX workstations purpose-built for media and entertainment (M&E), manufacturing and product design (MPD), and architecture, engineering & construction (AEC). BOXX Cloud is powered by FLEXX, a groundbreaking, scalable data center platform consisting of high density BOXX workstations.

“Computer technology is constantly evolving and so is BOXX,” said Lawrence. “Our experience and expertise set us apart from our competitors and make BOXX ideally suited to lead through this period of great innovation and beyond. We not only know hardware, we also understand your software as many of us here rely on the same applications. UK launch unlocks US wholesale opportunities for UK fibre providers

FiberLocator, the US’s most prominent fibre data platform, has announced the addition of data on UK fibre providers to its extensive database, which already holds the fibre footprint and route maps of 1000+ carriers, more than 5 million connected buildings, and 6,000 data centres.

FiberLocator provides carriers, mobile operators, towercos and data centre operators with the most comprehensive, accurate, and timely fibre data available. For decades it has been the United States’ leading resource guide for developing a custom fibre network, planning data centre sites, locating on-net buildings and more. The company is constantly researching and integrating new data from providers and third parties to help guide network planners with the fibre data they need.

“FiberLocator users are generating an increasing request volume for UK-based fibre connectivity, and launching in the UK will open up many exciting new opportunities for us,” said Mike Iapalucci, Vice President of FiberLocator. “On the one hand, we see increased US demand for UK fibre. On the other hand, there is a rich and diverse fibre ecosystem in the UK. Our goal is to be the bridge between UK supply and US demand, and we’re already in the process of signing up our first suppliers.”

Fibre providers contribute footprint data onto the FiberLocator platform free of charge, advertising their fibre availability to a wide range of US carriers. This creates an additional wholesale selling channel, without the need for time-consuming framework negotiations.

“With the increased expansion of UK data centres, proximity to fibre is more important than ever for data centre users and operators,” said David Liggitt, President of CCMI. “This represents a fantastic opportunity for UK providers, and we’re thrilled to share our services with the market.”

The company aims to sign up a critical mass of UK fibre suppliers before the end of the year. and will be attending Connected Britain and Capacity Europe in London this fall.

New survey data reveals the rise and financial impact of malicious bots on businesses

Fastly, Inc. (NYSE: FSLY), a leader in global edge cloud platforms, today released the results of its new survey, “Bot Wars: How Bad Bots are Hurting Businesses,” which revealed 59% of IT professionals reported an increase in bot attacks over the past year, with significant incidents costing companies an average of $2.9 million.

“Bots are a double-edged sword: they can streamline tasks, but in the wrong hands they become powerful tools for cybercrime, costing businesses millions and eroding customer trust,” said Fastly Security Product Manager Daniel Corbett. “Our new research reveals the impact and scale of these attacks, and underscores the urgent need for robust bot defenses at organizations.”

More than three-fourths (76%) of respondents from organizations across a wide range of industries, including financial services, retail, IT and telecommunications, faced at least one bot attack in the past year, with 43% experiencing multiple bot attacks. Respondents endured an array of bot attacks including malware distribution, click fraud and DDoS attacks. In fact, 91% of respondents believe automated bot attacks are now the “norm for ecommerce organizations.”

Among the survey’s key findings:

  • Malware distribution bots were the most common reported threat, affecting 49% of organizations, followed by web scrapers and click fraud bots (tied at 44%), DDoS bots, and spam bots (tied at 41%)
  • While 73% of technical staff that deal with security incidents on a daily basis have seen a rise in bot attacks in past year, only 53% of senior management believe that bot attacks are on the rise at their organizations
  • Respondents organizations were most concerned about data breaches (48%), financial loss (41%) and business/service disruption (39%) resulting from bot attacks
  • 47% of respondents believe their organization could do more to prepare for a bot attack

In addition to these findings, the survey examined the potential use of AI by adversaries to accelerate bot attacks: 45% of survey respondents believed AI would significantly increase the number of bot attacks, while 27% think it will amplify the severity of bot attacks.

Over a 25+ year career at Accenture, Simon led key IT digital transformation projects for the company, including transforming its internal security architecture from a legacy, reactive on-prem approach to a dynamic cloud first, service oriented model with a focus on identity, access and data governance. Simon helped the company ensure the delivery of effective internal security and identity projects even as the company grew dramatically over his career. With his direct experience in large scale digital transformation projects, Simon also worked closely with many of Accenture’s customers.

“We are thrilled to strengthen our leadership team with the addition of Simon, one of the industry’s most respected and highly-regarded IT and security visionaries,” said Paul Zolfaghari, President at Saviynt. “He brings deep experience from one of the world’s largest organizations to Saviynt where our customers will benefit from his strategic, future-focused perspective and vast knowledge. We are looking forward to making Simon’s unique, exceptional expertise available to Saviynt’s customers.”

In his role as Senior Vice President of Expert Services, Simon will be responsible for ensuring that existing customers realize the full benefit of Saviynt’s identity management platform. Simon will also work with new companies who are considering an identity modernization initiative, showing them the achievable path to realize the value of this transformation with Saviynt’s solutions.

“As I start my journey at Saviynt, I have reflected on how this pivotal stage in my career aligns with what I see as an equally pivotal evolutionary stage in cybersecurity. I believe emphatically that only by truly making identity the fabric that binds, protects and enables all technology can you look to securely and effectively transform businesses,” said Simon. “I am excited to be joining an organization that not only has the desire to play a key role in shaping this next evolutionary stage but has brought together a team of people whose passion, expertise and experience will set the blueprint for an innovative and successful future.”

Simon was instrumental in securing the technology that runs Accenture’s business – a critical role in a $150 billion global company with 780,000 people in 120+ countries and more than 400 office locations. Reporting to Accenture’s CIO and working directly with Accenture’s CISO, Simon had overall responsibility for the enablement of Accenture’s digital identity vision, from strategy to implementation and running of all Identity and Access Management services.
