Milestone demonstrates company’s leadership in and commitment to advancing health outcomes for underserved communities
athenahealth, Inc., a leading provider of network-enabled software and services for medical groups and health systems nationwide, today announced that it has successfully completed Uniform Data System+ (UDS+) synthetic testing as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs).
Completion of UDS+ synthetic testing marks a critical milestone in athenahealth’s support for the UDS+ program, now requiring health centers to electronically submit de-identified patient data to the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The Uniform Data System Modernization Initiative is transforming the existing labor-intensive submission and analysis of UDS data by streamlining the data submission process and improving patient-level insights. UDS+ can help FQHCs improve practice efficiency and make data-driven decisions, which can ultimately lead to expanding access and improved patient outcomes for the most vulnerable populations.
Submission of de-identified patient level data will be accomplished via Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) aligned with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs). More than 400 customer and partner applications leverage athenahealth’s robust library of FHIR and proprietary APIs to power their user experiences. athenahealth’s support for UDS+ leverages the more than 165,000 clinical integrations available to all athenaOne customers, including FQHCs.
“FQHCs provide care to some of the most vulnerable patient populations in the United States and we continue to invest in solutions and services that help them in that incredibly important mission. Completing UDS+ synthetic testing furthers our ability to support these health centers by ensuring they have the tools and technology needed to adhere to complex and evolving regulatory and reporting standards,” said Chad Dodd, vice president of product management at athenahealth. “Reducing the burden of regulatory changes for FQHCs allows them to focus on what matters most – improving the health of patients in need. We are committed to playing a part in enabling high-quality care in underserved communities across the country.”
FQHCs continue to be the backbone of many underserved communities and populations, with a mission to provide quality healthcare services to those who need it most. athenahealth’s technology is at the forefront of the industry supporting the nation’s FQHCs, with a fast-growing customer base of more than 12,000 FQHC providers. FQHCs can take advantage of all the features of athenaOne, athenahealth’s comprehensive suite of electronic health record (EHR), revenue cycle management (RCM), and patient engagement solutions to help support their robust needs including behavioral health, women’s health, population health, telehealth, dental, and, with this latest announcement, up-to-date reporting capabilities to meet annual UDS submission standards.
