Mutual customers will be able to leverage NetApp solutions to right-size their IT environments to run VMware workloads at scale efficiently.

For more than a decade, NetApp and VMware, recently acquired by Broadcom Inc., have collaborated to ensure the success of their joint customers and help them unlock the full value of their VMware investments. During that time, NetApp has been a key engineering design partner with VMware and is continuing to drive innovation in highly available, scalable and performant storage as a design partner for its Next-Generation vSphere Virtual Volumes (vVols). Now, NetApp is announcing new capabilities that will enable joint customers to run their VMware deployments more efficiently.

NetApp is helping optimize costs, simplify operations, and increase flexibility for customers running VMware environments by offering:

• Expanded Support for VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF): NetApp and Broadcom customers will now be able to simplify their VCF hybrid cloud environments by using NetApp ONTAP^® software for all storage requirements, including standard and consolidated architectures. The latest release of ONTAP Tools for VMware (OTV) will support SnapMirror® active sync to provide symmetric active-active data replication capabilities for NetApp storage systems running VMware workloads. SnapMirror active sync allows customers to operate more efficiently by offloading data protection from their virtualized compute and improving data availability.
• New Capabilities for Azure VMware Solution (AVS): To support customers that are extending or migrating their vSphere workloads to the cloud, customers can now leverage Spot Eco by NetApp with AVS reserved instances to get the most value out of their deployments. Using Spot Eco to manage AVS reserved instances while also using Azure NetApp Files to offload data storage can reduce compute costs significantly.
• Enhanced VM Optimization Features for NetApp Cloud Insights: NetApp is introducing Cloud Insights VM Optimization, expanding its comprehensive solution for optimizing virtual environments, including VMware. Cloud Insights VM Optimization will give customers tools to reduce costs by increasing VM density, run storage at the best price-to-performance ratio for their environment, and monitor their entire environment to ensure availability, performance, and adherence to configuration best practices across the entire stack. To help customers optimize the compute, memory and storage resources of their VMware environments, NetApp is also offering customers a free 30-day trial of Cloud Insights to most cost-effectively migrate to the new VMware software subscriptions.

These offerings follow last month’s release of enhancements to NetApp BlueXP disaster recovery service, which provides guided workflows to design and execute automated disaster recovery plans for VMware workloads across hybrid cloud environments with newly added support for VMFS datastores.

VergeIO set a record for new customers that was 50 percent higher than any prior quarter, and twice what were closed in the first quarter, due in no small part to organizations seeking alternatives to VMware. Sales were also four times the second quarter of 2023.

Along with sales was a record number of prospective customers evaluating VergeOS Ultraconverged Infrastructure (UCI) software that integrates virtualization, storage, and networking into a single data center operating system. The company saw a 5x increase in its sales pipeline including double-digit large enterprise prospects, and incoming interest from more than 6,000 potential new customers.

VergeIO continued to refine its partner offerings, including the launch of a new partner portal with a full suite of enablement and self-training tools in Q2. Ten new reseller partners signed on during the quarter, and 80 percent of enrolled partners brought in new business opportunities.

Outside the U.S., VergeIO now boasts active resellers in Canada, England and elsewhere in Europe, Asia, and South America. New customers have signed on from Liechtenstein, Australia, Indonesia, Taiwan, England, and Canada.

Also in Q2, Jason Yaeger was appointed Senior Vice President of Engineering to drive product development, ensure robust technology governance, and foster a culture of innovation within the engineering teams.

Fastly, Inc. (NYSE: FSLY), a leader in global edge cloud platforms, today released the results of its new survey, “Bot Wars: How Bad Bots are Hurting Businesses,” which revealed 59% of IT professionals reported an increase in bot attacks over the past year, with significant incidents costing companies an average of $2.9 million.

“Bots are a double-edged sword: they can streamline tasks, but in the wrong hands they become powerful tools for cybercrime, costing businesses millions and eroding customer trust,” said Fastly Security Product Manager Daniel Corbett. “Our new research reveals the impact and scale of these attacks, and underscores the urgent need for robust bot defenses at organizations.”

More than three-fourths (76%) of respondents from organizations across a wide range of industries, including financial services, retail, IT and telecommunications, faced at least one bot attack in the past year, with 43% experiencing multiple bot attacks. Respondents endured an array of bot attacks including malware distribution, click fraud and DDoS attacks. In fact, 91% of respondents believe automated bot attacks are now the “norm for ecommerce organizations.”

Among the survey’s key findings:

• Malware distribution bots were the most common reported threat, affecting 49% of organizations, followed by web scrapers and click fraud bots (tied at 44%), DDoS bots, and spam bots (tied at 41%)
• While 73% of technical staff that deal with security incidents on a daily basis have seen a rise in bot attacks in past year, only 53% of senior management believe that bot attacks are on the rise at their organizations
• Respondents organizations were most concerned about data breaches (48%), financial loss (41%) and business/service disruption (39%) resulting from bot attacks
• 47% of respondents believe their organization could do more to prepare for a bot attack

In addition to these findings, the survey examined the potential use of AI by adversaries to accelerate bot attacks: 45% of survey respondents believed AI would significantly increase the number of bot attacks, while 27% think it will amplify the severity of bot attacks.
