Rapid customer adoption of vendor-agnostic data management drives oversubscribed Series E round led by GV (Google Ventures), including General Partner and former GitLab CRO Michael McBride who joins Cribl’s Board of Directors

Cribl, the Data Engine for IT and Security, today announced it has closed a $319 million oversubscribed Series E round, comprised of a combined primary and secondary transaction, bringing the company’s total capital secured to over $600 million and increasing its valuation to $3.5 billion, up 40% since the company’s Series D round in 2022.

The round was led by new investor GV (Google Ventures), marking one of the firm’s largest-ever investments. The investment was led by GV General Partner and former GitLab CRO Michael McBride, who joined Cribl’s Board of Directors. GIC, CapitalG, IVP, and CRV also participated in the round. This funding comes on the heels of Cribl surpassing $100 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) in less than four years, becoming the fourth-fastest infrastructure company to reach centaur status in October 2023.

As enterprise data grows at a 28% CAGR, far outpacing IT budget growth, legacy vendors and point solutions make it challenging for customers to keep up with the volume, variety, and value of data. Cribl’s vendor-agnostic solutions empower customers to analyze, collect, process, and route all IT and security data to unlock its value. Since its inception in 2018, Cribl has seen unparalleled growth as enterprises around the world rapidly adopt the Data Engine for IT and Security to transform their data strategies. Cribl’s telemetry data management solutions drive significant value for enterprises, evidenced by:

  • ARR Growth: The company’s ARR has grown at a 163% CAGR for the last four years;
  • Customer Growth: The customer base has grown by triple digits YoY for five straight years, including a quarter of the Fortune 500 companies that are now Cribl customers;
  • NDR: Customers continue to grow and expand with Cribl as the company boasts a net dollar retention (NDR) of over 130% over the past 12 months;
  • Multi-product Adoption: Customers purchasing multiple products across the portfolio increased by over 300% over the past 12 months.

“As practitioners who worked in this space for years, my co-founders and I know firsthand the challenges facing IT and Security as data grows exponentially. What worked over the last ten years simply cannot keep up with the needs of businesses today, let alone over the next ten years,” said Clint Sharp, co-founder and CEO of Cribl. “We started Cribl to solve these real problems for real users. Today’s funding proves the value in that approach. It’s an incredible milestone, but only a step in our journey to create a generational company that will continue to evolve to meet our customers’ needs.”

“At Sophos, we’ve found Cribl to be invaluable when it comes to addressing some of our most complex data processing challenges. Cribl not only understands the unique needs of cybersecurity professionals but also empowers them with great flexibility and control over their data. Cribl also enables us to tailor data formats for different destinations, giving us much greater control over storage options and retention periods,” said Stephen O’Leary, Principal Information Security Engineer at Sophos. “This flexibility complements our own products and other tooling, allowing us to efficiently manage an ever-increasing volume of data from disparate sources. More than just a vendor, Cribl has become a key collaborator in our mission to protect Sophos.”

GV’s support of Cribl is significant, marking one of the largest investments in the firm’s 15-year history. The funding will facilitate Cribl’s continued growth by accelerating product development, extending global presence, and strengthening infrastructure to support its rapid expansion.

“Every company must modernize its data stack as legacy systems already can’t handle today’s rapid data growth, and the arrival of AI further accelerates the need for a modern data platform,” said GV General Partner Michael McBride. “Cribl’s rapid growth has come from the consistent and powerful results experienced by its customers. It’s an honor to partner with Cribl’s deeply technical and seasoned team as they define the data platform category, similar to the way Salesforce did for sales and marketing and GitLab did for DevSecOps.”

With more than 700 employees worldwide, Cribl is actively broadening its business footprint, with a presence in the US, Europe, and Australia. The company’s market impact has been recognized by several prestigious industry accolades, including the Forbes Cloud 100 for two consecutive years, the Redpoint InfraRed 100Notable Capital’s Rising in Cyber, and the Wing Enterprise Tech 30.

Forrester highlights Ataccama’s unparalleled data quality and observability and vision to deliver trust in data to accelerate enterprise business initiatives.

Ataccama, an AI-powered data management company, has been named a Strong Contender by independent analyst house, Forrester, in its first edition of the Forrester Data Catalog Wave Report which evaluates enterprise data catalog providers. Forrester has recognized Ataccama as having commendable proficiency in ensuring data quality and observability, and highlighted the advanced genAI capabilities that distinguish Ataccama’s offerings by enabling self-service for all business users.

“We are excited to be named a Strong Contender in the report and recognized for our continued focus and expertise in the data management market,” said Jessie Smith, VP of Data Quality, Ataccama. “The reality is that to stay competitive, enterprises today must become data-driven businesses. Quality data provides valuable insights to leaders and transforms the potential of AI projects to fuel business growth, expand customer footprint, streamline operations, reduce costs, and ensure compliance. However, such initiatives will fail if business users cannot trust their data. Data quality and cataloging is critical to ensuring that all data is fit for purpose and that data consumers are empowered to leverage quality data to drive better business outcomes.”

Quality data is imperative to solving business challenges
In its analysis, Forrester emphasizes the importance of comprehensive data and AI cataloging to AI readiness and Ataccama’s data catalog is the first critical step in delivering data quality and enabling sophisticated enterprise-grade data governance. The unified Ataccama ONE data management platform not only provides a robust data catalog but also delivers data quality and master data management solutions to help organizations establish a single source of truth by documenting all data assets from all sources and environments, and ensures this is always up to date with automated data discovery and data observability.

Leading global mobile and 5G carrier, T-Mobile, uses Ataccama’s solution to connect all of its data sources and ensure enterprise-grade data governance through continuous automated data scanning, classification and protection of sensitive assets. This enables T-Mobile to secure its data and protect itself against third-party attacks, comply with industry and regulatory requirements, and achieve competitive advantage by predicting behavior and intent to better serve its customers.

Daniel West, Data Management Lead at T-Mobile, said, “Ataccama has been pivotal in helping T-Mobile secure our vision of understanding our customers so well, we know when they have problems almost before they do.”

Automation, AI and data democratization are transforming enterprises today
Ataccama’s commitment to innovation in data quality, MDM, generative AI and personalized customer service were identified by Forrester for delivering unparalleled data quality and observability to customers. An additional strength highlighted in the report is how Ataccama’s data catalog capabilities ensure data consumers can find and understand the right data assets they need, as technical metadata has little value without business metadata.

Ataccama’s AI-enabled platform empowers data consumers to be self-sufficient by using AI automation to easily fix data issues without needing support from technical people. This maintains data quality and allows them to collaborate with others and independently extract value from quality data for their business use cases, nurturing a data-driven culture throughout the entire organization.

  • WestCap leads Series B round to support rapid product expansion amidst private credit boom
  • Mark Schultis appointed President of Siepe, bringing two decades of experience in the credit and CLO ecosystem
  • Siepe LLC, a trusted provider of software and technology-enabled services for private credit and CLO managers, has raised $30 million in a Series B funding round led by WestCap, a strategic operating and investing firm with $6 billion in assets under management (AUM). The investment will drive a multi-product roadmap, including the expansion of its AI and Machine Learning capabilities, and strengthen strategic partnerships. These initiatives will help support the accelerated capital flows, and eliminate inconsistent data and processes seen across the Collateralized Loan Obligation (CLO) and private credit ecosystem.

Since its founding in 2012, Siepe has designed solutions and services that enable strategic business and investment decisions for the front, middle and back office teams of private credit asset managers and CLOs. Their solution suite brings entire investment lifecycles into perspective, providing customers with a single source of truth and full transparency into real-time, accurate data to increase oversight and streamline workflows. By leveraging AI technology, Siepe solutions also eliminate manual processes that can be used to drive bottom-line growth for its clients’ customers and optimize investments.

As private credit continues to be one of the fastest growing asset classes within the alternatives market, the firm is committed to enhancing the efficiency, data integrity, compliance support and scalability of CLO and private credit managers. As a result, Siepe has seen significant growth across technology and service business lines in H1 2024 with private credit managers. This includes adding nineteen CLO and private credit deals with eight top-tier US CLO managers, which accounts for over $7.7BN in new assets under administration (AUA). The Company also onboarded two new front-office software clients, one with $80BN AUM in private credit assets and the other with $6BN in total AUM and launched a new private credit fund.

“The new capital will help us continue our momentum in deploying integrated solutions and best-in-class service for fund managers in the private credit and broadly syndicated bank debt sector,” said Michael Pusateri, CEO and Founder of Siepe. “Our mission is to help credit managers better leverage their data to reduce operational risk and increase alpha.”

The Siepe team will leverage WestCap’s experience – as founders, operators and managers – in the private markets ecosystem, specifically around financial technology and data management workflows. The firm is also an early and material investor in private market-leading innovators iCapital and AddeparWestCap’s support of Siepe will be led by:

    • The firm’s founder, Laurence A. Tosi, former CFO of both Airbnb and Blackstone, and COO of Merill Lynch Investment Banking and Trading. As a founder and investor, he created several industry-changing platforms to solve some of the most pressing challenges in private markets, including Ipreo, TMC Bonds and iLevel.
    • WestCap Partner, Co-COO and Head of Strategic Operators, Kevin Marcus, who will join the Siepe board and bring his experience as the Co-Founder and former President of iPreo (acquired by IHS Markit), a provider of market intelligence, data, and workflow solutions for global capital markets.
    • Ryan Benevides, Principal at WestCap, who will also join the Siepe board, and previously held roles within Blackstone Credit.

“The growth of private credit markets has outpaced investment in technology and innovation, causing inefficiency, lack of insight and control over private assets,” said Laurence A. Tosi, Managing Partner and Founder of WestCap. “These are the challenges that Siepe is addressing with a trusted solution that brings the entire investment lifecycle into perspective.”

In conjunction with the new funding, Siepe has appointed Mark Schultis as President. Schultis joined Siepe as an Advisor in October 2023, bringing nearly two decades worth of experience focused directly in the credit and CLO world. Previously, he was CEO at SE2 LLC, and a Partner and Senior Vice President at IHS Markit running the Wall Street Office (WSO) business.

“I’m thrilled to join Siepe at this pivotal moment in their journey. Michael and team have always taken a technology first approach to building products and services for their customers, which is a key differentiator in the market today,” said Mark Schultis. “This new funding will accelerate our ability to scale our business, better support our customers and drive innovation in the industry, particularly around connectivity, quality and data transparency.”

The new executive and board membership line-up complements Siepe’s deep bench of senior leadership and extensive industry experience. Prior to founding Siepe, Michael Pusateri served as Chief Technology Officer at Carlson Capital and Highland Capital Management. The Company’s board members also include Robert Tomicic, a former Founder of Virtus Partners, and Ann Kono, former Chief Information and Risk Officer for Ares Management Corporation.

Informatica (NYSE: INFA), a leader in enterprise AI-powered cloud data management, today announced that SUBARU Corporation (SUBARU) has chosen to implement Informatica’s AI-powered Intelligent Data Management Cloud™ (IDMC), to enable the automaker to drive a global-scale data integration project.

SUBARU was faced with siloed data and utilization issues in 2019 with each department and operation handling data in isolated systems which resulted in disparate data. In 2020, SUBARU launched their global PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) project with an aim to consolidate data from business-critical processes, from vehicle development to production and after-sales maintenance, and develop a company-wide data integration platform to connect, track and share trusted data across their departments. The data integration platform supporting the global PLM project was completed in 2022 and went “live” in production that year, enabling lifetime data such as vehicle development to manufacturing, sales and maintenance, to customer IDs and other information to be seamlessly linked.

“With the help of Informatica, we are able to connect, integrate and strengthen our data linkage as early as technical development and design stages, and thus improve the quality of our car manufacturing,” said Kentaro Ichikawa, Chief of the Data Management and Utilization Promotion Department at SUBARU Corporation. “As our AI-powered data management partner, Informatica plays an integral part in our data integration project. The transformation brought SUBARU closer to realizing our two missions as it not only benefited our employees’ productivity level but also enhanced the customer experience.”

Informatica’s AI-powered IDMC platform and its cloud data integration and catalog capabilities enable SUBARU to curate data from its development, procurement, manufacturing, sales and maintenance services on a global scale to drive business insights from reliable and trustworthy data. The low-code/no-code environment within IDMC also enables SUBARU to scale its data integration through automation and eliminate data silos to allow users to drive greater data visibility across business functions from their business intelligence (BI) tool.

As of now, approximately 400 data assets have been cataloged and SUBARU plans to expand the range of users who utilize the data integration platform in their daily work through BI tool in the future.

“SUBARU’s decision to move to a single, AI-powered cloud data management platform with a consumption-based pricing model allowed them to advance at their own pace and remain flexible and adaptive to their business environment and needs,” said Taito Kozawa, Country Manager and President of Informatica Japan. “Informatica is proud to be the partner of choice for enterprise cloud data management to help SUBARU solve their upstream and downstream data challenges, empowering users across their organization to drive trusted business insights through transformative power of data on our AI-powered IDMC platform.”

Altera-based Infrastructure Processing Units Enable Disaggregation of Big Data

Napatech™ (OSLO: NAPA.OL), a leading provider of Altera-based programmable Smart Network Interface Cards (SmartNICs) and Infrastructure Processing Units (IPUs), used in cloud, enterprise, government and telecom datacenter networks, today announced a strategic partnership with SigmaX.AI, an innovative provider of high-performance and cost-effective data management solutions for an exploding list of datacenter and edge computing AI/ML and Big Data Analytics workloads.

Datacenter operators are racing to deploy an array of applications for artificial intelligence. The use cases generate massive amounts of data, significantly driving up costs for computation, storage, and networking. Additionally, cloud-based data analytics services that are used to store, process, and secure data can drown businesses in operational and capital costs overshadowing the benefits that AI applications promise to deliver.

SigmaX.AI rescues datacenters sinking in the size, cost and complexity of their AI/ML data with an innovative software solution that transforms IPUs from Napatech into powerful data management tools. SigmaX.AI’s Chronicle (Loghub) software intelligently ingests, transforms, and standardizes log data from various sources into an AI/ML-ready format at the network’s edge, minimizing data redundancy and ensuring real-time availability. The IPU is deployed in select servers throughout the datacenter, and runs SigmaX.AI’s edge data stream engine. The powerful combination of software and hardware solves the AI data problem in multiple dimensions by intelligently pre-processing data at the source. It reduces time, complexity and cost in:

    • Data Creation: By removing up to 90% of duplicate data, server CPU processing, log data generation, and 3rd party cloud SaaS license fees are all reduced.
    • Data Transmission: Deduplication, compression, and encryption reduce network utilization and improve security across the enterprise and to the cloud while reducing latency by 90X.
    • Data Storage: Intelligent analytics removes unnecessary data, reducing local and cloud storage costs by more than 60% while also improving search results.
    • Data Processing: Accurate and refined data reduces third-party analytics and search service costs and improves response times, improving application performance by 57X.

Napatech’s IPUs are packed with the latest technology from Intel and Altera, including the powerful Intel® Xeon® D processors and Agilex™ 7 FPGAs. The products also feature an innovative, disaggregated design that unlocks new network architectures, applications, and services like SigmaX.AI. It offers flexible combinations of FPGA and processor resources that deliver the optimal mix of functionality, performance, size, cost, and power while supported in standard, high-volume servers.

“SigmaX.AI’s scalable solution delivers benefits to hundreds, even thousands, of servers in typical deployments across Global-5000 enterprise, cloud, and government networks,” said Rob Morrow, Chief Executive Officer, at SigmaX.AI. “Our partnerships with leading technology providers like Intel, Altera and Napatech give our customers confidence knowing that they have a solution that marries the best technology from the industry’s leading providers.”

“This is another example of our successful partnership with Intel and Altera, bringing Napatech together with high-growth companies like SigmaX.AI, who are solving the most challenging problems in large scale AI deployment,” said Lars Boilesen, Chief Executive Officer at Napatech. “Their solution takes advantage of the IPU to minimize the actual data that travels across the network by orders of magnitude, reducing application latency, and enabling more insights than traditional data analytics infrastructure. The solution provides immediate benefits to network operators by radically reducing log volumes and reducing cloud analytics costs.”

“SigmaX.AI provides an ideal solution for intelligently pre-processing data and conditioning it for AI/ML or data analytics applications,” said Jeni Barovian, Head of Market Development at Altera, an Intel company. “Their approach gives control back to enterprises who are struggling with the not-so-hidden costs of big data applications. We are excited to see the ecosystem for Altera-based IPUs continuing to expand in valuable and creative ways.”

The solution will be on display at the Intelligence & National Security Summit, August 27-28, 2024, at the Bethesda North Marriot Hotel and Convention Center and at the Altera Innovators Day, September 23, 2024 in San Jose, California. Conclusion

    Introduction

Data lineage tools are sophisticated software designed for complete data management within the organizational context. These tools’ primary role is to systematically record and illustrate the course of data elements from their source through various stages of processing and modification, ultimately reaching the pinnacle in their consumption or storage. They can help your organization to understand and manage data. However, currently, you will find a lot of data lineage tool alternatives out there, but no worries, as AITech Park has narrowed down the best option for your company that will help you this year.

    1. Collibra

Collibra is a complete data governance platform that incorporates data lineage tracking, data cataloging, and other features to assist organizations in managing and using their data assets more effectively. The platform features a user-friendly interface that can be easily integrated into other data tools, aiding data professionals to describe the structure of data from various sources and formats. Collibra provides companies with a free trial, but the pricing depends on the needs of your company.

    2. Gudu SQLFlow

Gudu SQLFlow is one of the best data lineage analysis tools. It interprets SQL script files, obtains data lineage, conducts visual display, and permits users to provide data lineage in CSV format and conduct visual display. SQLFlow delivers a visual representation of the overall flow of data across databases, ETL, business intelligence, cloud, and Hadoop environments by parsing SQL scripts and stored procedures. Gudu SQLFlow offers a few pricing options for data lineage visualization, including a basic account, a premium account ($49 per month), and an on-premise version ($500 per month).

    3. Alation

The third one on our list is Alation, which is a data catalog that helps data professionals find, understand, and govern all enterprise data in a single. The tool uses ML to index and make new data sources such as relational databases, cloud data lakes, and file systems. With Alation, data can easily be democratized, which gives quick access alongside metadata to guide compliant, intelligent data usage with vital context. However, the plan and pricing are not revealed by Alation, as it depends on the needs of your company.

    4. Atlan

Atlan ranks fourth in our list of the best data lineage tools as it delivers outstanding capabilities in four key areas. These include data cataloging and finding, data quality and research, data lineage and governance, and data exploration and integration. Apart from these, Atlan enables users to handle data usage and adoption across the ecosystem with granular governance and access controls, no matter where the data flows.

As organizations continue doubling their reliance on data, the question of having credible data becomes more and more important. However, with the increase in volume and variety of the data, high quality and keeping track of where the data is coming from and how it is being transformed become essential for building credibility with the data. This blog is about data quality and data lineage and how both concepts contribute to the creation of a rock-solid foundation of trust and reliability in any organization.

    1. The Importance of Data Quality

Assurance of data quality is the foundation of any data-oriented approach. Advanced information’reflects realities of the environment accurately, comprehensively, and without contradiction and delays.’ It makes it possible for decisions that are made on the basis of this data to be accurate and reliable. However, the use of inaccurate data leads to mistakes, unwise decisions to be made, and also demoralization of stakeholders.

    1.1 Accuracy:

Accuracy, as pertains to data definition, means the extent to which the data measured is actually representative of the entities that it describes or the conditions it quantifies. Accuracy in numbers reduces the margin of error in the results of analysis and conclusions made.

    1.2 Completeness:

Accurate data provides all important information requisite in order to arrive at the right decisions. Missing information can leave one uninformed, thus leading to the wrong conclusions.

    1.3 Consistency:

It makes data consistent within the different systems and databases within an organization. Conflicting information is always confusing and may not allow an accurate assessment of a given situation to be made.

    1.4 Timeliness:

Data is real-time; hence, decisions made reflect on the current position of the firm and the changes that are occurring within it.

    2. The Role of Data Lineage in Trust and Reliability

Although data quality is a significant aspect, data provenance, data lineage, and data destination are equally significant factors. This is where data lineage comes into play. Data lineage, therefore, ensures that one knows the lineage of the data, the point of origination, how it evolved, and the pathways it has been through. Data lineage gives a distinct chain of how a piece of data comes through an organization right through to its utilization.

    2.1 Traceability:

Data lineage gives organizations the ability to trace data to its original source. Such traceability is crucial for verifying the correctness as well as accuracy of the data collected.

    2.2 Transparency:

As a result, one of the most important advantages of using data lineage is better transparency within the company. The company ensures that the stakeholders have an insight into how the data has been analyzed and transformed, which is important in building confidence in the data.

    2.3 Compliance:

Most industries are under the pressure of strict data regulations. Data lineage makes compliance easy for an organization in that there is accountability for data movement and changes, especially when an audit is being conducted.

    2.4 Risk Management:

Data lineage also means beneficial for defining the risks for the data processing pipeline. It is only by becoming familiar with the data’s flow that an organization can easily identify any issues, such as errors or inconsistencies, before arriving at the wrong conclusion based on the wrong data.

    3. Integrating Data Quality and Data Lineage for Enhanced Trust

Data quality and data lineage are related and have to be addressed together as part of a complete data management framework. Here’s how organizations can achieve this:

    3.1 Implement Data Quality Controls:

Set up certain policies in the process of data management at each phase of the process. Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and as needed check-ups and data clean-ups to check if the data is of the needed quality.

    3.2 Leverage Data Lineage Tools:

Ensure that software selection for data lineage gives a graphical representation of the flow of data. These tools are quite useful for monitoring data quality problems and the potential effects of such changes on the data.

    3.3 Foster a Data-Driven Culture:

Promote use of data within the organization, which would ensure that high importance is placed on the quality and origin of such data. Also, explain to the employees the relevance of these ideas and the part they play in the success of any business.

    3.4 Continuous Improvement:

Data quality and lineage are not just activities that are done once but are rather cyclical. Ensure that the quality of data management is consistent with an ongoing process of active monitoring of new developments in the business environment and new trends and possibilities offered by technology.

    4. Parting Words

When data is being treated as an important company asset, it becomes crucial to maintain the quality of the data and to know its origin in order to build its credibility. Companies that follow data quality and lineage will be in a better position to take the right decisions, follow the rules and regulations set for them, and be in a better position compared to their competitors. If adopted in their data management process, these practices can help organizations realize the full value of their data, encompassing certainty and dependability central to organizational success.
